About
Ghost Pepper is a free, open-source Mac app for speech-to-text and meeting transcription. Its models run entirely on your Mac via Apple Silicon (M1+) on macOS 14.0+, with no cloud APIs, so no data leaves your machine. Hold Control to talk, release to transcribe, and paste the text into any text field.
Beyond dictation, Ghost Pepper can record calls with notes and a transcript, saving AI-generated summaries as markdown. A local LLM provides smart cleanup that removes filler words and handles self-corrections. It lives in your menu bar with no dock icon, launches at login by default, and lets you edit the cleanup prompt, pick your microphone, and toggle features on or off.
Models download once from Hugging Face and are cached locally. Transcription history and recordings stay on your Mac, and you can clear history in Settings. Optional cloud features (Zo AI chat, Trello, and Granola meeting import) are disabled by default and require your own API keys. The app requires Microphone and Accessibility permissions and is released under the MIT license.
