About
GNU TeXmacs is a free scientific editing platform for creating technical documents with a WYSIWYG interface. It provides a unified framework for editing structured documents that combine text, mathematics, graphics, interactive content, and slides, and it offers high-quality mathematical typesetting. It can also serve as a graphical front-end for many systems in computer algebra, numerical analysis, and statistics.
Documents can be saved in TeXmacs, XML, or Scheme format and printed as PDF or PostScript files. Converters exist for TeX/LaTeX and HTML/MathML, though TeXmacs is not based on TeX/LaTeX. Its rendering engine uses high-quality typesetting algorithms to produce professional-looking documents that can be printed or presented from a laptop.
Users can write new styles and add new features to the editor using the Scheme extension language. GNU TeXmacs runs on all major Unix platforms, macOS, and Windows.
