About
Gram is a source code editor and IDE, hard-forked from the Zed editor. It has many features but is still a work in progress. It is a community project: at present it is maintained by one developer in their spare time, along with a small group of contributors. The project aims to move slowly toward stability, reliability, and respect.
Gram's core philosophy is that writing code by hand with care is good, and it is meant to be a good tool for doing exactly that. The goal is for someone learning programming for the first time to download, install, and use it out of the box, with no configuration or extensions required, and without the editor pushing anything potentially malicious, distracting, or confusing.
Gram can be downloaded as binaries for Mac OS, Linux, and Windows. On Mac OS it can also be installed with Homebrew (brew install --cask gram), and some Linux distributions provide packages. Documentation is built into the editor and also available online, though the online version may not match your installed version. The source code is hosted at codeberg.org/GramEditor/gram, and discussion takes place in a community chat room accessible via XMPP.
