About
GrandPerspective is a small macOS utility that graphically shows disk usage within a file system. It uses a tree map, in which each file is shown as a rectangle with an area proportional to its size. Files in the same folder appear together, though their placement is otherwise arbitrary. This makes it easy to spot which files and folders take up the most space, which can help you manage your disk.
The app offers configurable views, with options to show files, packages, and folders, and several color mapping schemes, including color by name, extension, file type, size, or modification time. You can navigate up and down the folder hierarchy, open, reveal, or preview items in Finder or Quick Look, delete items from the view, and search by file name. Filters can mask or exclude files, and the app can analyze Time Machine backups and remote cloud files. Scan results can be saved, reloaded, and exported as an image or as text.
GrandPerspective is free to download from SourceForge, or you can get the same app from the App Store for $2.99. Buying from the App Store means the app has passed Apple's review and quality control, you receive automatic updates, and you help cover distribution costs and support further development.
