About
GridCraft is an open-source spreadsheet application in the style of Microsoft Excel, built as a clean-room project in pure Rust by the ArtCraft team. It runs natively on macOS, Windows, Linux and BSD, and in the browser via WebAssembly. Its interface includes a ribbon, formula bar, Name Box, sheet tabs, keyboard shortcuts, and features such as Format Cells, conditional formatting, tables and charts.
GridCraft supports a broad set of spreadsheet work. It offers over 500 functions, dynamic arrays, LET and LAMBDA, and structured table references, along with accounting formats, cell styles, sparklines, pivot tables, and seventeen chart types. XLSX is its native format, and CSV and TSV are also supported. Legacy .xls workbooks open with their values, formulas and number formats, and XLSB and ODS worksheet data can be imported using saved values. Its performance features include copy-on-write workbooks, incremental recalculation, and a virtualised grid that lays out only what is on screen.
GridCraft is free of subscriptions, licence servers and telemetry. Every ribbon button, menu item, dialog, keystroke and mouse gesture is a command that agents can run through a JSON control channel, an MCP server, or the CLI. The project is licensed under Apache-2.0 and MIT.
