About
HazeOver — Distraction Dimmer™ for Mac automatically highlights the active window by dimming background windows. It is aimed at people who are easily distracted, who struggle with too many windows, or who work on a large display or across multiple monitors. Instead of minimizing, closing, or hiding windows, you can keep your workspace as it is while the frontmost window stands out through added contrast. The app also helps reduce eye strain and glare, complements Dark Mode, and lets you lower overall brightness at night without sacrificing the legibility of the active window.
Dimming intensity and animation speed can be customized, and separate dimming settings can be used for Dark and Light appearance. The desktop is revealed when used, dimming can be toggled with a keyboard shortcut or adjusted with a gesture, and the Fn key temporarily turns dimming off while dragging between apps. HazeOver can also be controlled or automated through the Shortcuts app, Focus filters, and AppleScript. The website notes it is updated for macOS 27 Golden Gate and requires macOS Ventura 13 or later for the current version.
