About
Jettison lets you manually take control of your external disks from your menu bar, or set them to eject automatically before your Mac sleeps or after your display powers off. You can close your MacBook and unplug without forgetting to eject drives first. Ejecting matters because macOS often caches data before writing it to a drive, so unplugging a disk without ejecting it can risk data loss.
When your Mac sleeps, Jettison ejects external disks, then remounts any that are still connected when it wakes. You can choose which types of disks it works with and exempt or include specific drives. Menu bar controls let you eject all external disks at once or eject and mount them individually.
Jettison works on any Mac, including the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro. It requires macOS 10.13 through 27 and runs natively on Intel and Apple Silicon. A 15-day free trial is available, and a single-user license costs $7.95.
