About
Jot is a local-first notes inbox for macOS. Press shift twice to capture the current selection, an image within it, or a screenshot already on the clipboard, and it lands as a plain markdown file in a folder you own. There is no account and no sync, and analytics stay off unless you turn them on. Everything collects in a keyboard-first inbox with a command palette for search, merging, and sending jots onward.
Jot also offers dictation (hold fn to speak text into the app in front of you, with optional cleanup), screen annotation, page drawing, and quick notes, each with its own shortcut. Transcription and cleanup can run on your Mac or through a cloud model you supply your own key for. Right-click a jot to send it to a coding agent such as Claude Code or Codex, and an included MCP server lets agents list, search, read, add, finish, archive, and tag jots.
Jot requires macOS 12 or later. It is sold as a one-time license for 1, 3, or 10 Macs, with updates included and nothing renewing, and it can be tried with every feature free for 3 days. The site lists a 7-day refund policy.
