About
Jubler is a free and open source subtitle editor for creating, editing, and converting text-based subtitles. It provides tools for authoring new subtitles and refining existing ones, with video preview, quality validation, and support for more than 20 subtitle formats, including SubRip (SRT), Advanced SubStation Alpha (ASS/SSA), WebVTT, and TTML. Editing features include an interactive timeline with draggable subtitle blocks, time shifting, frame rate conversion, splitting and joining entries, a spell checker, and regex find and replace. Quality validation supports configurable rules and TED guidelines compliance checking.
Jubler uses VLC for video and audio playback, frame preview, and audio waveform visualization, and it relies on ASpell for spell checking. Translation mode with Azure Translator support is also included, along with command-line tools for batch processing and automation. The application is written in Java 8, officially supports macOS, Windows, and Linux, and offers HiDPI support and a dark theme.
Jubler is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3 (AGPL-3.0). According to the website, its continued existence relies exclusively on donations.
