About
Julia is a programming language built for high performance. Its programs automatically compile to efficient native code via LLVM and run across multiple platforms. It is dynamically typed and feels like a scripting language with good support for interactive use, yet it can also be optionally compiled separately. Reproducible environments let you recreate the same Julia setup on every platform using pre-built binaries.
Julia uses multiple dispatch as its core paradigm, which makes many object-oriented and functional programming patterns easy to express. Its general-purpose feature set includes asynchronous I/O, metaprogramming, debugging, logging, profiling, a package manager, and the ability to build binaries. Julia also offers multi-threading, built-in REPL modes for package management, shell access, and help, and a package install workflow that prompts for registry packages when they are not yet installed.
Julia is an open source project with over 1,000 contributors, released under the MIT license, with source code available on GitHub. Its ecosystem covers data science, machine learning, scientific domains, and parallel computing, and it supports building, deploying, and embedding applications, along with foreign function interfaces for many other languages.
