About
Kaku is a macOS terminal based on WezTerm. Its name means "to write" in Japanese. It comes with JetBrains Mono, automatic dark and light themes, shell integration, and familiar Mac shortcuts already configured, and it keeps full Lua customization for fonts, themes, shortcuts, and behavior. Tabs and panes can be split and navigated with shortcuts, and Kaku can restore windows, panes, and working directories when you reopen it. Cmd + Click opens URLs and file paths, and a right-click menu offers paste, search, AI chat, and pane and tab controls.
Kaku is built for AI-assisted work. The top right shows which agent is working and on what, and you can be notified when Claude Code needs your input. An optional assistant, which you configure with your own AI service through kaku ai, can suggest fixes when a command fails, turn a # description at the prompt into a command for review, and chat about terminal output or project files. Kaku does not provide or relay the AI service. Shell tools include built-in zsh completion, syntax highlighting, and directory jumping, along with shortcuts for optional Lazygit and Yazi installations. Running kaku remote provides a link to access Kaku from another computer's browser.
Kaku can be installed from a DMG or with Homebrew (brew install --cask kaku). It is currently macOS-only, with no Windows or Linux version available.
