About
Kate is a text editor available for Linux, Windows and macOS. It lets you view and edit many files at the same time, in tabs and split views, and includes plugins such as an embedded terminal for running console commands, search and replace tools, and a preview plugin that shows how Markdown, HTML and SVG files will look. Syntax highlighting supports over 400 languages, on-the-fly spellchecking helps you check text before publishing, and multi-cursor editing and multi-selection are available. You can configure every hotkey, so you can keep the bindings you already use.
For larger projects, Kate offers a project sidebar for navigating directory structures, smart tabs for quickly reopening recent documents, and a search and replace tool that searches across your entire project. For programming, Kate provides autocompletion for many languages through the Language Server Protocol (LSP), scriptable auto indentation, VI input mode, rectangular block selection, and smart comment and uncomment handling.
Kate also includes many plugins installed by default. These include the integrated terminal emulator, an SQL extension for executing queries, GDB for debugging programs, and one-click project builds.
