About
LidAngleSensor is a small Mac utility that displays the angle reported by your MacBook's lid angle sensor. If you adjust the lid very slowly, it can optionally play a wooden door creaking sound. The sensor was introduced with the 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro, and the app is hard-coded to look for a specific sensor. The author has tested it only on an M4 MacBook Pro.
The site reports that the app may not work on M1 and M2 devices, and lists the M1 MacBook Air (wedge-shaped) and M1/M2 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar as known problematic models. It has not been tested on iMac. If your laptop's sensor isn't detected, the site suggests running a provided script and reporting the output in an issue. Building the app requires Xcode, which the author has tested on Xcode 26.
The app can be installed with Homebrew using `brew install lidanglesensor`. To keep the sound off, the site says you should never click "Start Audio." The project is licensed under Apache-2.0.
