About
Loopback is a Mac app for cable-free audio routing. It can combine audio from applications and audio input devices into a single virtual device, then make that audio available anywhere on your Mac. Its wire-based interface lets you configure routing visually, and virtual devices are available to all apps system-wide. Loopback also offers a Pass-Thru device for passing audio directly from one application to another with almost no configuration.
Loopback includes options for building complex setups. You can create virtual devices with up to 64 channels, set custom channel mapping, nest one Loopback device inside another, and use monitoring and volume controls to hear and adjust your audio. Individual devices can be toggled on or off without deleting your setup. It works with any application and any input device, from simple USB microphones to high-end studio mixers.
The website highlights uses such as combining a microphone with audio from Music or Farrago for a Zoom call, recording multiple hardware devices into one virtual device for apps like GarageBand, Logic, and Ableton Live, capturing a microphone and app audio for screencasts, and recording gameplay alongside a microphone with devices like Elgato's Game Capture hardware. Loopback also pairs with Audio Hijack. Loopback is available as a free download with limitations in trial mode, and purchasing unlocks the full version.
