About
LosslessCut is a free, open source app for cutting and trimming video and audio without re-encoding. Instead of re-encoding the whole file, it cuts the data stream and copies it directly, so operations finish in seconds without loss of quality. It runs on macOS 13 or newer, and it is an official app by Mikael Finstad.
Beyond cutting, LosslessCut can merge cut segments, or whole files with identical codecs, losslessly. It can add, remove, replace, or extract tracks such as audio and subtitles, and change the format (remux), for example from MKV to MP4, without re-encoding. It can also detect scenes, black frames, and silence, edit metadata and rotation, and opens almost any format, even ones your player can't play.
Some limits apply. Which functions are available depends on the file and its format and codecs. Lossless cuts can only start at a keyframe, so a cut starts at the keyframe before your cut point, up to several seconds earlier depending on the encoding. The app is free to use and has no ads or tracking, according to its website.
