About
LosslessSwitcher is a free, open-source Mac app that switches your audio device's sample rate to match the lossless song currently playing in Apple Music. For example, when a Hi-Res Lossless track at 192kHz is next in line, the app switches your device to that sample rate as soon as possible, and it switches back when a track with a lower sample rate plays. Without it, macOS requires you to manually change the sample rate in the Audio MIDI Setup app.
The app lives in your menu bar and shows the sample rate it reads from Apple Music's logs; that rate can also be displayed directly as the menu bar item. Bit depth switching is supported but not recommended, since enabling it reduces detection accuracy. Users should expect possible brief audio interruptions during switches, and frequent sample rate queries may increase battery usage on MacBooks.
LosslessSwitcher requires an admin user account and Apple Music with Lossless mode enabled. Version 1.x supports macOS Big Sur 11.4 through Sequoia 15.3.1, while version 2.0 is in beta for macOS Sequoia 15.4 and later. The app cannot be sandboxed and is provided without warranty; the developer accepts no liability for consequences of its use.
