About
MacPacker is a free, open-source archive manager for macOS. Instead of unpacking an entire archive into a new folder, it lets you open an archive and browse its contents like a Finder window, seeing folders, file names, and sizes without extracting anything. You can preview individual files with Quick Look, step into nested archives without intermediate extractions, and drag out just the files you need.
MacPacker also lets you create and edit ZIP archives. You can create a ZIP from scratch, add or delete files in an existing ZIP and save it, or compress files and folders to ZIP directly from Finder. It opens 41 formats, including ZIP, RAR, 7z, TAR, DMG, and ISO, and runs natively on Apple Silicon with macOS 14 or later.
MacPacker is released under the GPL-3.0 license and can be installed from the Mac App Store, with Homebrew (brew install --cask macpacker), or by downloading the .dmg or .zip from the website. Every option is free, with no paid tiers, subscriptions, or ads.
