About
magpie is a free, open-source Mac app (macOS 12+) that lets you use any model with any coding agent. Add a provider once, such as DeepSeek, Kimi, GLM, Qwen, OpenRouter, Ollama, or a Claude or ChatGPT plan you already pay for, then pick that model from agents like Codex, Claude Code, or Gemini CLI in one click. magpie runs a local gateway on your machine that translates between the OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google APIs in both directions, including streaming, tool calls, and reasoning, so any agent can use any vendor's model. A menu bar view shows which model each agent runs, and changing it rewrites only that agent's config key. Profiles can switch every agent at once.
magpie also includes privacy masking: before a request leaves your computer, secrets such as API keys, tokens, emails, and card or ID numbers are replaced with placeholders, and the placeholders are swapped back into the reply, so your agent keeps the real values while the vendor does not see them. Values are held in memory only, and if masking cannot run, the request is held back rather than sent. An Insights view lists each masked request side by side with what the vendor received, and you choose what to mask or whether to warn or block.
magpie can also share the subscriptions you already have across agents: a Claude Pro/Max, ChatGPT Plus/Pro, or GitHub Copilot sign-in becomes a provider usable from other agents' model pickers. With several accounts or keys enabled, smart routing picks which one answers each request, prefers the account whose allowance resets soonest, skips accounts that are out of credit or rate-limited, and can route each turn to a model you have assigned to that kind of task.
