About
Mail Assistant is a basic helper app for Mac that makes it possible to send email using methods available to iOS apps but not on the Mac. Its primary function is composing an email with raw HTML, which is useful if you write in Markdown in Drafts and convert the text to HTML rich text before sending.
Mail Assistant works as a companion to Drafts, enabling HTML mail on Mac, and it can also be launched to send email directly. It registers the mail-assistant URL scheme with a /sendMail action that opens a pre-filled compose window. You can edit the message before clicking Send, and the app quits itself after sending. Because it works via x-callback-url, other automation apps can use it too. A Send Mail action is also available in the Shortcuts app on macOS 12 or greater.
Mail Assistant is free and requires macOS 11.2 (Big Sur) or greater, plus a Mac Mail app configured with at least one valid email account. Note that Mail Assistant does not function on macOS 15.0 through 15.3 due to an Apple bug, which Apple resolved in macOS 15.4, so install at least that version to use it.
