About
Aleph One is an open source continuation of Bungie's Marathon 2 game engine. It runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux and natively supports Marathon, Marathon 2, and Marathon Infinity, with many third-party scenarios and net maps also available. The engine is licensed under the GNU General Public License.
The games follow a fight for survival against the Pfhor, an alien race attacking your colony ship. Marathon 2 includes a popular single-player campaign with updated graphics from the XBLA remake, and Marathon Infinity asks you to rewrite history to prevent the destruction of the universe. Most multiplayer matches are played with Infinity.
Multiplayer supports up to 8 players in matches or co-op play, peer-to-peer over a LAN or over the Internet if the host is configured properly. Players can chat in a global matchmaking lobby, and an optional lhowon.org account tracks play history and monthly leaderboard standings. The engine also powers many community-made games and total conversions.
