About
Markdown Preview is a free, open source Mac app that turns raw .md files into clean, readable documents with proper headings, lists, and tables. There is no setup and no account to create: just open the file. It requires macOS 15 or later.
Select any .md file in Finder and press the space bar to see the formatted document instantly, through the bundled Quick Look extension. Spotlight previews use the same renderer. Every heading becomes a navigable table of contents, so you can click to jump between sections or scroll and follow the active heading.
When you want to make changes, Markdown Preview hands the file off to your editor of choice, such as VS Code, Cursor, Zed, or Sublime, and its picker remembers your last choice. Unlike editors such as Typora or Marked, it is focused on reading. It is free, MIT licensed, and has no ads and no paid version.
