About
Markpad is a Markdown app available on macOS, Windows, and Linux. It offers a GitHub-flavored Markdown preview with syntax highlighting in code blocks, KaTeX for math formulas, and native Mermaid diagrams. A floating table of contents follows you as you scroll, and heading folding and Zen mode help you focus. You can also import VS Code themes.
For editing, Markpad embeds the Monaco editor engine from VS Code, with optional built-in Vim keybindings. Synchronized split view keeps the editor and preview aligned line by line in real time. Heading completion helps with links, and you can customize the formatting toolbar. You can paste images directly into documents or drag files in to open them. Markpad also supports wikilinks, embeds, and GitHub-style callouts.
Documents can be managed in multi-window tabs with window tags, and sessions are restored when you return. Files reload automatically when they change on disk. You can export clean HTML in one click or print to PDF. Markpad is lightweight, starts almost instantly, collects zero telemetry, and is free and open source. Its interface is available in 26 languages.
