About
Material Maker is a procedural materials authoring and (experimental) 3D model painting tool, built on the Godot Engine and available for Windows, Linux, and macOS. Materials and brushes are defined as graphs in which nodes create or transform textures. Most nodes are GLSL shaders, and when they are connected, Material Maker generates combined shaders instead of rendering an image for each node. Users can also create new nodes by combining and grouping existing ones or by writing their own GLSL shaders.
Material Maker can create static PBR, dynamic PBR, and raymarching materials, as well as dynamic unlit materials. Exports are provided for the Godot and Unity game engines. Unreal Engine 5 is supported through a generated Python script that builds the material in Unreal, while Unreal 4 requires manual material setup, since Material Maker only generates image files and shaders. The base library includes about 250 nodes for shapes, patterns, filters, and transforms.
The project is free and open source, and it is available with a pay-what-you-want model. The source code and documentation are on GitHub, where bugs can be reported and features suggested. Questions can be asked on the project's Discord server, and finished materials can be shared on the Material Maker website.
