The MEGA Desktop App, which the website lists for macOS, lets you control your uploads and downloads and keep your computer in step with your MEGA account. You can sync your entire MEGA Cloud drive or selected folders with your computer, so changes made in either place are reflected in the other. You can add new syncs or pause, suspend, disable, or run existing ones.
The app can also back up your Mac to MEGA, automatically copying files and folders in real time. A transfer manager lets you add, sort, search for, prioritise, pause, and cancel transfers. If you have the app installed, transfers started through a browser are handled by the app, which the website says improves reliability, performance, and speed. You can also stream audio or video files from MEGA in your favourite media player.
For Macs, the website offers an Intel version for macOS Catalina 10.15 or later and an Apple Silicon version for M1 or later chips running macOS Big Sur 11 or later. If you use the app on several computers, the site advises installing the same version on all of them to avoid errors.
