About
Microsoft AutoUpdate (MAU) provides updates to various Mac products from Microsoft, so you may be prompted to update MAU even if you're not running Office for Mac. Microsoft recommends always updating to the latest version. The release history covers versions 4.83 through 4.85, each with a published package and SHA-256 hash for verification.
The most recent release, MAU 4.85 (September 18, 2026), focuses on update reliability, security hardening, IT policy handling, and stability. Its changes include fixes for devices running older MAU versions that could not check for or install updates, a updated signing key and catalog signature for validating update content, and a hardened installation process to better protect system files on shared or multi-user Macs. It also fixes IT admin deferral settings that might not be applied as expected, and addresses crashes, including during startup.
Earlier releases addressed related areas. MAU 4.84 (July 14, 2026) improved IT policy enforcement, macOS compatibility, deployment accuracy for managed environments, and diagnostics and logging. MAU 4.83 (April 16, 2026) focused on enforcing configured update deadlines, installer permission and post-install issues in managed deployments, and crash fixes during update checks.
