About
MiddleClick is a Mac app that emulates a scroll wheel click when you click or tap with three fingers on a MacBook trackpad or Magic Mouse. It works system-wide, so you can close browser tabs by middle-clicking them. In Safari, middle-clicking a link opens it in a background tab, and in Terminal it pastes selected text. The app supports macOS Sequoia 15.
You can install MiddleClick with Homebrew using `brew install --cask middleclick`, or download it directly. You can change the number of fingers used for the click, such as 4, 5, or 2, with a default of 3. You can also allow clicks with more fingers than the set number, which helps if your other hand accidentally touches the touchpad, though the site notes this is not a palm rejection method for large touchpads. Tap sensitivity can be adjusted through maximum distance and maximum time settings. The status bar icon can be hidden using a standard macOS drag gesture.
MiddleClick is free and licensed under GPL-3.0. The site states that the project is finished and will remain available, and that its successor, WheelClick, provides the three-finger click and tap middle click for free.
