About
MKVToolNix is a set of tools for creating, altering, and inspecting Matroska files. The website describes it as available under Linux, other Unices, and Windows. The Matroska libraries and the author's Matroska tools have been officially available since May 1, 2003, and the author encourages users to download the software, use it, and report any errors they encounter.
The website also lists macOS binaries (DMGs) for releases 98 and newer, including ARM and Universal builds, thanks to work by community members. However, the developer has announced that macOS binaries and any macOS support will stop in the second half of 2026, because Apple is discontinuing the Rosetta x86-to-ARM translation system.
The latest release listed on the site is v103.0, released on 2026-10-18. The developer says bug reports are especially valued and that user feedback is important to them.
