About
MonitorControl lets you adjust your external display's brightness, volume, and contrast on your Mac, as if it were a native Apple display. You can use the menubar sliders or your keyboard, including the native Apple brightness and media keys, or set custom keyboard shortcuts. The app shows the native macOS on-screen display for brightness and volume, and you can sync multiple displays with a single slider or shortcut. It is completely free.
The app supports several methods of adjusting brightness. DDC controls external displays, native Apple protocols handle Apple and built-in displays, and gamma table control provides software dimming. Shade control covers AirPlay, Sidecar, DisplayLink, and other virtual screens. Hardware and software dimming can be combined to go below your display's minimum brightness, and dimming to full black is supported. Dozens of advanced settings are available once you enable "Show advanced settings" in the app's Settings.
MonitorControl can be installed from the latest .dmg on its Releases page or with Homebrew (brew install --cask monitorcontrol). To use the native Apple keyboard keys, you must add the app to Accessibility under System Settings » Privacy & Security. Full functionality requires macOS 11 Big Sur or newer, and version 4.4.0 or newer is required for macOS 27 Golden Gate. The project is released under the MIT license, and contributions are accepted at the maintainer's discretion.
