About
Mullvad Browser is a free, open-source, privacy-focused browser for macOS, developed by the Tor Project. It is designed to minimize tracking and browser fingerprinting. It blocks third-party trackers with uBlock Origin, uses letterboxing and other techniques so that users present similar fingerprints, and isolates third-party cookies in separate cookie jars during your session. Private mode is enabled by default, and no cookies are saved between sessions. The browser also has no telemetry.
Mullvad Browser is essentially a Tor Browser without the Tor Network. You can use it with a trustworthy VPN or without one. The website notes that a VPN hides your IP address, but a privacy-focused browser is also needed to resist fingerprinting, so the two are meant to be used together.
Mullvad Browser does not earn money directly. Mullvad says its income comes from its VPN service, and the browser is a complement to that service. It is free of charge whether or not you are a Mullvad VPN user.
