About
nao is an open source agentic BI builder that lets a data team build an analytics agent and manage its context layer, while everyone else in the company can build on that data. The product is installed from the command line (pip install nao-core), and the website describes it as backed by Y Combinator.
At its core is a context layer: the team syncs its warehouse, dbt, and docs into files the agent reads, organized in a project folder with configuration, database and column definitions, business definitions, glossary, and metrics. The site states that context work takes an agent from about 15% to 85% reliability, and it also describes offline evaluation that scores context changes against expected SQL before they ship, plus online chat replay and context recommendations drawn from errors and downvotes.
Users interact with nao by asking questions in natural language, getting charts, summaries, and SQL-backed answers, and pinning or building live stories and dashboards. These can be accessed from the web app at app.getnao.io.
