About
Toxvas is an offline canvas for Mac where every card is a plain Markdown file stored in a folder you choose. Card bodies render as Markdown, including headings, lists, tables, quotes and code fences, and you can attach files such as photos, PDF first pages and voice notes directly to the board. Search runs over the whole folder using a local index, so it works with the network off, and a command palette (⌘K) lets you run the app's commands from the keyboard.
Your notes live in a folder that Toxvas sets up with a plain-text spec file, a cards directory, a boards directory and an attachments directory. Nothing needs configuring or migrating, and you can open the files in Finder, any editor or Git, or delete the app and keep your notes. The site also says any agent that can run a shell can read and write the board with the app closed, and that changes appear on the canvas within about two seconds.
Toxvas offers a free 7-day trial with no account needed. After that it is a one-time payment of $9 for early access rather than a subscription, and the licence covers two Macs. It requires macOS 14 or later on Apple silicon.
