About
OpenDisplay turns an iPhone or iPad into an extra display for your Mac, and it can also serve as a third screen. It runs as two apps: a Sender on the Mac (or Linux desktop) that captures and streams a virtual display, and a Receiver on the device you want to use as a screen. It is a true extended display rather than a mirror, connects over USB or WiFi, and supports Retina-sharp output with touch and scroll. Android phones and tablets are in public beta over WiFi, and a Linux desktop sender is in beta.
OpenDisplay is free and open source under GPL-3.0, with no subscription, no dongle, and no account. The website positions it as a free alternative to Apple Sidecar, Duet Display, and Luna Display. Supported systems include macOS 14+ and iPadOS 15+ / iOS 15+ for the Sender and receiver apps, with the Mac receiver requiring macOS 12+. The macOS Sender is signed and notarized, and it can be installed directly or with Homebrew.
The project is built by one person. It can be installed from the website's download links, and users can also compile it from source.
