About
OpenInEditor-Lite is a lightweight macOS Finder toolbar app for opening the current directory or selected items in a code editor. It is part of the OpenInTerminal project, and the site positions it as the quick, no-frills option: the author prefers it because it is a one-click action and more lightweight than the full OpenInTerminal app, which requires two clicks and offers GUI preferences and keyboard shortcut support that the Lite version lacks.
The app supports a wide range of editors, including TextEdit, Xcode, Visual Studio Code, VSCode Insiders, Atom, Sublime Text, VSCodium, BBEdit, TextMate, CotEditor, MacVim, the JetBrains IDEs, Typora, Nova, Cursor, notepad--, and neovim. Opening in custom apps is also supported, though the site notes that not all apps work with this feature. The interface is available in English, Chinese, French, Russian, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, German, and Korean.
The site notes that signed builds are no longer provided for OpenInEditor-Lite, so users must either trust the unsigned binary or sign it themselves. It can be installed with `brew install --cask openinterminal` or downloaded manually from the releases page. Users on macOS 15 and later must follow the configuration instructions for the context menu items to appear.
