About
OpenInTerminal is a macOS Finder toolbar app that opens the current directory in Terminal, iTerm, Hyper, Alacritty, and other supported terminals. It also lets you open items such as folders or files in supported editors, including TextEdit, Xcode, Visual Studio Code, Sublime Text, and various JetBrains IDEs, and in custom apps, though not all apps are supported. Preferences include a GUI for settings, keyboard shortcuts, and a choice of interface languages.
The project offers two versions: OpenInTerminal, with the full feature set including GUI preferences, and OpenInTerminal-Lite with OpenInEditor-Lite, which provide a one-click way to open a terminal or editor with a lighter footprint and no GUI preferences or keyboard shortcut support. Installation is available via Homebrew (brew install --cask openinterminal) or a manual download from the releases page. Signed builds are no longer provided, so users must trust the unsigned binaries or sign them themselves, and macOS 15 and above requires additional setup to make context menu items appear.
The app is open source under the MIT license, with configuration and FAQ documentation available separately. The latest version, 2.3.9, includes a fix for an AppleScript/command injection vulnerability, and adds support for Zed, Emacs, Kakoune, GitKraken, and cmux.
