About
OpenNavo is a free, open-source Mac app and website that acts as a graphical front end for Homebrew. It lets you install, update and uninstall more than 5,000 Mac apps in one click, and it can also show App Store apps once you sign in with your Apple Account. Apps that aren't in Homebrew link to the developer's official download, and OpenNavo does not host installers. Every command and log line is visible, and macOS asks for your password when administrator rights are needed.
OpenNavo includes security features built on the open-source ClamAV engine. Apps are scanned before they install, new downloads and startup items are checked as they appear, and scans run on your Mac without uploading files. It also offers quick, full and scheduled scans, a startup item monitor, signature and notarization checks, and a system check-up covering settings such as SIP, Gatekeeper, FileVault and the firewall. OpenNavo notes that ClamAV's Mac-specific coverage is limited, so it adds to the protection built into macOS rather than replacing it.
The app also keeps a release history for each app, with translated release notes available in ten languages. OpenNavo requires macOS 13 or later and supports both Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
