About
This plug-in extends Apple's Dictionary.app on macOS with a German thesaurus (synonym dictionary). You can look up all synonyms, not just the main word. Search also matches word parts within phrases or hyphenated compounds, which Dictionary.app normally doesn't do, since it usually only searches from the start of a word. No internet connection is required because the complete dictionary is built into the plug-in.
The thesaurus is based on the online OpenThesaurus (openthesaurus.de) by Daniel Naber and contains about 176,000 entries. It can be installed by double-clicking a DMG file, manually by copying the dictionary folder into a Library/Dictionaries folder, or via Homebrew. The standard version supports OS X 10.11 through macOS 27, and a Legacy version supports Mac OS X 10.6 through OS X 10.10. Installation instructions and uninstall steps are in the FAQ.
The plug-in is licensed under GPLv3, and the dictionary content is licensed under CC-GNU LGPL.
