About
Pacifist is a multi-tool for working with macOS package files, disk images, and file archives. It can open a wide variety of formats, including macOS .pkg packages, .dmg disk images, macOS asset catalogs, Mac OS 9 Installer Tome files, and .zip, .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .xar, and .yaa archives. You can examine and extract individual files and folders.
Pacifist helps you check and understand what is on your Mac. You can inspect install scripts and other package resources to make sure a package is trustworthy before installing it, and analyze existing installations to determine who installed a particular file. You can also view archive contents directly in the Finder via QuickLook, and inspect the contents of .zip files (and other supported types) over the Web without downloading the entire archive first. Files can be viewed and extracted through a GUI or an automation-friendly command-line interface.
Version 4 was rewritten from the ground up in Swift 5, with a focus on multi-threadedness, resulting in significant performance and user-experience improvements. Pacifist is optimized for Apple Silicon and also works on 64-bit Intel processors.
