About
PhotoCraft is an early alpha image editor for macOS, written entirely in Rust. It offers layers, masks, adjustment layers, layer styles, type, vectors and brushes, with menus, shortcuts, panels and tools that familiar editors use. It is free, open source and works offline. The app renders on the GPU through Metal, with no Electron or web view.
PhotoCraft opens and saves layered PSD and PSB documents, and 134 of 135 real-world test files round-trip byte for byte. Editing is non-destructive, with 16 adjustment layers, 70+ live-preview filters, smart objects with smart filters, and a full set of layer styles. Subject and object selection and mask refinement run on your machine. It supports 8, 16 and 32-bit documents in RGB, CMYK, Lab and Grayscale, with ICC color management and soft proofing.
The macOS version is a universal disk image for Apple silicon and Intel Macs, and it is free. You can install it standalone or through the ArtCraft Launcher, which keeps PhotoCraft and other Crafting Apps up to date. The current release is version 0.16.0.
