About
Pinwheel is a macOS app for building design systems and accessibility testing. It can act as the source of truth for a design system or convert Figma variables into code, supporting color sets for stepped gradients, color aliases for semantic colors, and other token types such as shadows, numbers, strings, and booleans. It works offline, stores documents in an open format that can live in Git repos, imports and exports many formats including Design Tokens JSON, Figma, Sketch, CSS, and asset catalogs, and can run from the command line.
Pinwheel includes on-the-fly WCAG 2 and APCA contrast checking as you adjust colors, plus more comprehensive, repeatable accessibility testing with reports saved as HTML or PDF. Custom export templates are available when a needed format isn't supported. The app costs $9 USD plus tax, is not a subscription, includes all 1.x updates, requires macOS 15 or later, and offers a 30-day free trial.
