About
plugdata is a free, open-source patching environment based on Pure Data, with a modern interface, a DAW plugin version, code export, and a curated set of objects. Instead of writing code, you build audio systems by dropping visual blocks onto a canvas, connecting them with cables, and hearing the result right away. It ships with the ELSE and Cyclone libraries, and it is suited to experimenting with sound, prototyping effects, and learning the basics of digital audio.
A patch can run as a standalone desktop app on macOS, and it can also be loaded as a VST3, AU, CLAP, or LV2 plugin in your DAW. plugdata reads and writes the standard .pd patch format and is built directly on pd-vanilla, so patches move between plugdata and Pure Data. It is released under the GPL-3.0 license and requires no account.
plugdata is used in classrooms and workshops for learning programming and audio fundamentals, and by artists for building soundscapes, experimenting with synthesis, and working in live effects chains.
