About
ProcessSpy is a Mac app for monitoring running processes in depth. It offers per-process CPU and memory history, a CPU QoS breakdown, memory footprint tracking, and real-time disk I/O and memory pressure rates. Finished processes are remembered for later review, and the app includes a menu bar dashboard. Search supports regular expressions, multiple properties, and JavaScript-based filters, and the hierarchy view shows aggregate totals. An inspector pane shows details such as whether an app runs natively, its digital signature, and its memory footprint.
The app was built by a developer who needed to tell apart several Java processes running different JDK versions, which Activity Monitor could not do. ProcessSpy shows full command-line arguments, version details, paths, and environment variables. It is designed for macOS 14 and newer, supports both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, and is Apple-notarized. According to the website, it runs entirely locally and sends no process data over the internet.
The free version is fully functional apart from certain paid features, such as CPU and memory history, environment variable inspection, and CSV export. A lifetime license costs $34.99 on Gumroad, and the app is also available on Setapp.
