About
Purge is a free Mac app that finds and clears junk to free up disk space. It covers app caches, developer junk such as Xcode derived data, Homebrew, npm, Docker, and VS Code caches, leftovers from apps you've deleted, and large files, old downloads, duplicates, and unused local AI models from Ollama and LM Studio. Purge only lists items it recognizes and explains why they're safe, and it skips projects you're still working on. You can exclude any folder so Purge won't look there again.
Purge is built to be safe. Cleared files go to the Trash by default, so you can restore them, and only a few items, like iOS simulators and Time Machine snapshots, are removed permanently. For large files and apps, nothing is deleted until you confirm. The source code is open on GitHub, and a never-touch list shows what Purge refuses to clear.
Purge is free, with no license, trial, or paid tier, and it has no analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting. The only network request is an update check, which you can turn off. It runs on macOS 13 or later and can be downloaded for Mac or installed with brew install --cask purge. It doesn't need Full Disk Access to start, though it asks after your first clean to unlock large files and app leftovers.
