About
QGIS is a free and open source spatial tool available on Windows, Mac, and Linux. It offers cartographic design features for creating maps for desktop, mobile, cloud, and print, including a layout designer for high-quality, large-format print maps and tools for building atlases and reports that combine maps and tabular content.
For editing, QGIS provides digitizing and construction tools for creating and editing points, lines, polygons, and meshes, along with CAD-like tools, curve geometry, geometry transformations, and a form designer for user-friendly forms. Its analysis toolset is integrated into a toolbox, and analysis steps can be combined visually into reproducible workflows. QGIS also supports a range of data sources and formats, web services based on industry standards, and third-party analysis tools.
QGIS is licensed under GNU GPLv2+ and developed by a community of contributors. The website points to quick-start tutorials, live demos, documentation, an annual international conference, and local user groups and support providers.
