About
QuickTune is a "mini player" for Apple Music on macOS that recreates the look and feel of QuickTime. It brings QuickTime's brushed metal textures, glassy buttons, and utilitarian LCD display to modern macOS. Graphite tinted windows come standard, and version 7.1 adds an option to use the Mac OS X Leopard theme for a more streamlined look.
The interface adapts to the type of audio you're playing, whether it's a local file or streaming internet radio such as Apple Music Hits. In version 7.2, track and provider information animates in the LCD display below the artwork. You can open the Inspector HUD to see details about the Now Playing track, such as Genre, Year, and Composers. The Playlists HUD lets you switch playlists by double-clicking one, so you don't need to bring up Apple Music. The Dock icon shows track information and playback controls, and includes Snap Back, which jumps back to the currently playing song in Apple Music.
QuickTune requires macOS Sonoma or newer and Music.app. It is a Universal Binary that runs on Macs with Apple silicon and Intel processors, and it is available in English, Spanish, Italian, Finnish, German, and Polish. The app is written in Swift using AppKit and uses Scripting Bridge and Distributed Notification Center to communicate with Apple Music. It was developed in Beaverton, Oregon, in collaboration with Tuomas Hämäläinen in Copenhagen, Denmark.
