About
RetroArch is a frontend for emulators, game engines and media players that lets you run classic games on a wide range of computers and consoles through a graphical interface. It runs on Mac OS X, along with Windows and Linux. Settings are unified, so you configure them once. You can also run original game discs (CDs) from RetroArch.
The interface is designed for browsing your collection. After scanning your games, they are sorted by system, and the menu supports thumbnails and animated backgrounds. Common game controllers are configured automatically when plugged in, and you can also set up controllers manually to assign actions to button combinations. Shaders can improve the rendering of old games or mimic the look of CRT monitors, and they can be stacked.
RetroArch also includes achievements, a built-in netplay lobby with a spectator mode, and the ability to record gameplay to a video file or live stream to platforms such as Twitch.tv or YouTube. It has over 200 cores, which are emulators, game engines and multimedia programs, and new ones can be downloaded with the built-in Core Updater. The app store version may differ from the version on the RetroArch website because of app store restrictions.
