About
RetroArch is a frontend for emulators, game engines and media players. It lets you run classic games on a wide range of computers and consoles through a graphical interface, and its settings are unified so you configure them once. You can also run original game discs (CDs) from RetroArch. RetroArch can run on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, and it is available for download on a variety of app store platforms, though functionality may differ from the version on the website.
The app includes a menu for browsing your game collection, which is sorted by system after scanning and supports thumbnails and animated backgrounds. Common game controllers are configured automatically when plugged in, and you can also assign special actions to button combos. Other features include shaders for graphical filters, achievements, netplay with a built-in lobby and spectator mode, and recording or live streaming to platforms such as Twitch.tv or YouTube.
RetroArch/Libretro is an open-source project that has been around since 2012. It offers over 200 cores, which include game engines, games, multimedia programs and emulators, and new ones are added over time. You can download new cores with the built-in Core Updater.
