About
RuSwitcher is a free, open-source menu-bar app for macOS that fixes text typed in the wrong keyboard layout. Type a word, tap Option ⌥, and the last word is converted into the correct layout, such as ghbdtn becoming привет. Tap again to reverse the conversion, or select text and tap to convert it. It works with any pair of installed layouts, including Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, German, and French, and the trigger key or two-key combo can be configured. Hebrew support is experimental.
RuSwitcher can also convert automatically as you type (beta, off by default). When you finish a word, it checks the macOS system dictionary and converts only when confident. Exception lists let you control which apps are excluded, which words are never converted, and which words are always converted. Short words, URLs, code identifiers, and password fields are deliberately skipped to avoid false fixes.
RuSwitcher also works through Apple Screen Sharing (beta), so you can fix wrong-layout text in a remote Mac session. A separate hotkey can switch the layout without converting text. The app can be downloaded from the project site or installed with Homebrew using brew install --cask ruswitcher.
