Scene Builder is a free, open source visual designer for JavaFX. You design interfaces by dragging and dropping, and it generates clean FXML that you can hand off to developers. It has been downloaded over a million times and is available for macOS on both Intel (amd64) and Apple Silicon (aarch64). Version 26.0.0 was released on April 17, 2026.
Drag & drop UI design supports rapid iteration. Separating design and logic files lets each team member focus on their own layer of development. Scene Builder works with the JavaFX ecosystem, including official controls, community projects, and Gluon offerings such as Gluon Mobile, Gluon Desktop, and Gluon CloudLink.
Scene Builder is licensed under the BSD license and backed by Gluon. Commercial support is available, including training and custom consultancy services. The source code and older releases are available on GitHub.
