About
Scoot is a tiny macOS utility that gives you fast, keyboard-driven control over the mouse pointer. You can move the cursor, click, and drag from the keyboard. It offers two primary navigation modes: element-based, which uses macOS accessibility APIs to find elements such as buttons and links in the focused window of the frontmost app, and grid-based, which subdivides all connected screens into equally sized cells, each with a unique key sequence. Type a cell's label to teleport the cursor to its center.
Scoot also supports cursor movement using standard macOS text editing shortcuts, as well as Emacs and vi keybindings. A supplementary Freestyle mode offers no special navigation assistance and is useful for nudging the cursor without showing the grid or element views. Scoot is activated with the global shortcuts ⇧⌘J (element-based), ⇧⌘K (grid-based), and ⇧⌘L (Freestyle), which can be customized. Pressing Return clicks at the current cursor location, and pressing = holds the left mouse button. Escape cancels a mistyped label.
Scoot is meant to augment your mouse or trackpad, not replace it. It runs on macOS 11 (Big Sur) and 12 (Monterey) and is written in Swift as an AppKit app.
