About
Scribus is a libre desktop publishing application that its makers describe as reliable and free, meaning you stay in control of your data and, if you wish, the code of the tool. Its file format is based on XML, so it can be read and analyzed with a simple text editor. This makes damaged files easier to repair, and it means you can create Scribus files without using Scribus itself.
Scribus ships with almost 200 color palettes, and as of version 1.6.0, almost 400 more are available for download. These include commercial color systems, national and government color standards, and open source collections. It supports RGB, CMYK, LAB/HLC, spectral, and spot colors, provides color management for display and conversion, and can emulate various forms of color blindness to show how color choices affect people with color vision deficiencies.
Scribus was the first desktop publishing program to support the PDF/X-3 specification, and as of version 1.6.0 it can also export to PDF/X-1a:2001 and PDF/X-4. It also offers a range of non-print PDF output options, such as PDF presentations or forms.
